Jennifer W.S. Paulson is an artist and teacher living in Austin, Texas.
Artist Statement My work explores representations of nature in an effort to understand the ways nature is perceived, and its role within contemporary society. Rather than investigating Nature" itself, I investigate human representations of nature, from the didactic tool to the decorative object. I often appropriate these objects for my work, combining them with a variety of media including painting, watercolor, and printmaking. Camouflaged within seemingly benign images, such as a painting of flowers, a botanical illustration print, or a vacation photograph, I embed these appropriated representations of nature in an attempt to investigate the cyclical relationship between human interactions with nature and human representations of nature.
Jennifer recently changed her name from Jennifer K. Whalen-Shaw to Jennifer W.S. Paulson.
